REACHING FOR NOTHING: WATER'S THIRST

Reaching For Nothing is a contemporary opera authored and created by Dereck Revington in collaboration with composer Peter Hatch, choreogrpaher David Earle and acclaimed music collective Numus.  The performance was staged at the Mike Lazaridis Theatre of Ideas at Canada’s Perimeter Institute for Theoretical Physics in 2008. As critic Bob Wiljer noted in his review for Contemporary Art, “Indeed a place where physicists push the limits of Cosmology, Quantum Foundations and Superstring Theory seems a congenial setting for entering the visual and aural perspectives of Revington and Hatch. […] This flow is divided into a work of nine sections, assembled as juxtaposed yet merging fragments, each supported by underlying texts whose themes are crucial to the beliefs of both western and eastern civilizations […] It is their ability to render stormy metaphysics with such intensely sensuous and riveting performances that makes this deeply felt thirst for nothing vivid and convincing.”
